Ken Bryan Western Isles Croft Houses
As families move to more spacious modern accommodation, or just move away, the old croft houses (Black Houses) are often left to fend for themselves against the Hebridean weather.
This former croft house, with some of its thatch just clinging to the rustic roof timbers, is in South Uist. The shot was taken using infrared film.
Another former croft house crumbling under the impact of the Hebridean elements. An old bicycle frame still rests against the end wall as an echo of better days (for the house at least). This photograph was also taken using infrared film.
